Evaluation in BBSRC

Evaluation is an objective process of understanding how an investment, intervention or policy was implemented, what effects it had for whom and why.

Evaluation activities contribute to the development of BBSRC’s wider evidence base which:

  • enables accountability
  • informs funding decisions
  • supports learning to improve policy and practice.

BBSRC conducts a rolling programme of evaluations of its significant investments in research, innovation and training.

BBSRC adopts two different approaches to evaluation:

  1. We conduct internally-led evaluations where evidence is assessed by independent expert panels.
  2. We work with consultants on externally-commissioned evaluations drawing on their specialist expertise (for example, socio-economic analysis).
