Dr Liz Fellman

Dr Liz Fellman has a doctorate in Geochemistry from the University of East Anglia. She then spent several years working as a postdoctoral researcher on groundwater projects in sub-Saharan Africa with the University of Oxford and the British Geological Survey (BGS), before moving to the Jackson Environment Institute at University College London to examine the risks of pollution from road transport on public water supply. She subsequently joined the Royal Society to work on science policy.

Liz joined the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) in 1998 and has worked in a variety of roles including Head of Stakeholder Engagement, Head of Strategic Planning, Head of Portfolio Management, and Associate Director of Innovation. Liz has also worked on secondment in Defra and as Director of Research and Enterprise at Heriot-Watt University. Liz returned to NERC in 2015 to take on responsibility for capital investment and national capability, leading on developing and implementing NERC’s strategy for capital investment and the commissioning research and services from NERC Centres. She was seconded part-time to STFC in 2018 to work as a Sector Lead on the UK Research and Innovation Infrastructure Roadmap Project.

Liz is a member of the Science Advisory Committee of the BGS.
