Provide advice and guidance for the strategic development and delivery of the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF).

Who can apply

To apply for this role, you must:

  • have a background in international development research
  • have experience of working with developing countries
  • understand the translation and impact of research, particularly on developing countries
  • have experience in developing and implementing strategy or policy in an international development research environment
  • have experience of representing the views of the international development research community, including previous experience of sitting on relevant committees or boards.

We welcome applicants from:

  • overseas candidates from Development Assistance Committee (DAC) recipient listed countries
  • policy making, charities and the third sector
  • business, or industrial research and development
  • international candidates from academia, business, policy making, the third sector or non-governmental organisations outside of the UK
  • climate change and resilience, including energy policy for development
  • arts and the humanities
  • social sciences, in particular with a background in social statistics and data
  • global health
  • food systems
  • education.

The role

As a GCRF Strategic Advisory Group member, you’ll be advising on the strategic development and delivery of the fund.

You’ll be required to act within the ‘seven principles of public life’ and provide independent, informed advice, avoiding conflicts of interest. Read more about the seven principles of public life.

Time commitment

The group meets four times a year.

You’ll also need to commit between two and four days a year for additional work outside of the formal meetings.

Remuneration

This is not a salaried position. You’ll be paid a fee for every activity you are involved with. You’ll also be reimbursed for travel and subsistence expenses, in line with UKRI’s travel and subsistence policy (PDF, 162KB).
