The British Geological Survey (BGS) have an exciting opportunity for 2 Non-Executive Directors to join the committee to ensure BGS carries out its activities in line with the NERC and UKRI governance framework, ensuring high quality organisational governance.

You will bring your sector experience and exceptional knowledge to provide constructive challenge to the BGS directors and Senior Management Board, as well as offering support and advice on key issues and policies as needed.

Acting as an advocate for BGS, you will actively participate in planning and evaluation activities as well as ad-hoc assignments such as chairing sub-groups within BGS.

Additional aspects of the role may be developed over time including leadership for a cross cutting UKRI theme.

We have an excellent opportunity for a Deputy Executive Chair to play a lead role acting as an ambassador for the EPSRC across the research and innovation community including within academia and business.

As one of two Deputy Executive Chairs, you will provide highly respected, senior strategic leadership and play a pivotal role in developing and delivering a coherent EPSRC research and innovation strategy which maximises the impact of engineering and physical cciences in the UK.

The Executive Chair, working with the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council’s (BBSRC) council members, is responsible for setting the strategic vision for BBSRC and contributing to the wider direction of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

As the visible and credible leader of BBSRC you will manage its teams providing direction and intellectual leadership, ensuring delivery of research, skills, and infrastructure investments.

As a member of UKRI’s Executive Committee, you will be accountable to, and work closely with, the UKRI Chief Executive Officer. You will have a critical wider role within UKRI and in championing and increasing the impact of the life sciences.

The Executive Chair will work closely with government, including the devolved administrations, and in particular through the Department for Environment, Food and Rurual Affairs, the Department for Health and Social Care and  and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The Executive Chair will also work closely with the Higher Education Funding Councils and with stakeholders, including industry, through a variety of approaches aimed at promoting the translation and take-up of the outcomes of BBSRC-supported research.
